Adult Forums

In this year of our 50th Anniversary, we will be examining a variety of topics of interest to our parish community. Our Forums begin promptly at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday mornings in our parish hall. Please join us after the 8:00 a.m. service with a cup of coffee or tea and help us create a stimulating discussion of our topics. The Forum will end at 9:45 a.m. so we can break for the 10:00 o'clock service of Holy Eucharist.

Fall/Winter 2006

September 10
Bring a Friend to Church Sunday.
Invite a new friend or community member to join us in worship and to enjoy fellowship with us before the service. Activities will be offered to help us get acquainted with new friends, as well with one another.

September 17
Keeping God's Children Safe (Part One). Miriam Berry
Two of our parishioners have received training through the diocese and will explain what it means to keep our children of all ages safe. Guidelines for maintaining a safe environment and appropriate interactions with children will be some of the topics discussed.

September 24
Keeping God's Children Safe (Part Two). Ann Cusack
Ann will continue the discussion of the above program.

October 1
A Report on the 75th General Convention of the Episcopal Church held June 2006. Dr. Ruth Meyers, Academic Dean at Seabury Western Theological Seminary, was a delegate to our National Convention and will provide an overview of the Convention and subsequent history.

October 8
Meet With Our Seminarians
Come meet Jeanne Stewart, a senior at Seabury, and Court Williams, a middler at Seabury. Learn about their journeys of faith.

October 15
History of St. James the Less
The Anniversary Committee will coordinate a presentation as part of our 50th Anniversary celebration. Listen to fun and interesting anecdotes from our past.

October 22
There will be no Forum as we celebrate our 50th Anniversary.

October 29
Youth Group Missions: History and Future
John McCloskey will review with us the history of our recent youth group mission projects, the philosophy underlying these projects, a brief review of the New Orleans project, and the Youth Group proposal for 2007.

November 5
Stewardship Sunday -Supporting our Ministries
The ministries of our parish require your financial support. Come and hear about our hopes and dreams for 2007.

November 12
Covenant Relations from the Old Testament - Part I
John McCloskey will begin a two-part lecture and discussion of covenant relationships found in the Old Testament.

November 19
Covenant Relations from the Old Testament - Part II
John McCloskey will continue with the lecture and discussion of covenant relationships from the Old Testament.

November 26
Fellowship - No Forum

December 3
Advent Program - Part I
Jeanne Stewart and Court Williams will present a three part series to help us prepare for the celebration of Jesus' birth.

How Do Faith and Science Intersect?
Dr. Jason Cody from Lake Forest College will begin a two part series on Intelligent Design and the Scienti?c Theory of Evolution. This is intended to be an interactive program.

January 21
How Do Faith and Science Intersect?
Dr. Cody will conclude this series with a review of court decisions regarding these issues. Please join in this interactive discussion.

January 28
Fellowship - No Forum
(Annual Meeting follows 10:00 a.m. Worship)

Topics in Development
We are concluding the 2006-2007 program with topics still under development and discussion with presenters. A series on Sandwich Generation Issues is under development. We hope to begin with two lectures and discussions on issues facing both aging parents and their children, a presentation on the community resources available to both parents and their adult children, possibly a discussion panel on how to ?nd and use these resources, and the legal issues for both parents and children.

We are planning a series on the Old Testament Bible. We are currently exploring up to three lectures with a lecturer from Seabury.

  • A lecture or program on our new Children's Music Program
  • Two lectures from our community staff and parishioners
  • A program on Spirituality
