"Be joyful in the Lord, all you lands; serve the Lord with gladness and come before his presence with a song". Psalm 100:1
Music is vital to our worship at St. James the Less. We offer many opportunities for involvement; Choir, Bell Choir, Treble Choir, as well as an annual Spring Concert. Our ensembles are not auditioned - all are welcome and encouraged to join, regardless of experience or skill level. The most important aspects of being in an ensemble at St. James the Less are community and fellowship. If you are interested in joining a group, talk to Anastasia on Sundays, or send an email to:
Music Director: Anastasia C. Black
This year, the music department honored long-time choir member, Hank Bischoff, for all his years of service to the choir, and his ongoing commitment to quality worship at St. James the Less. Hank was presented with the newly founded 'Hank Bischoff Bass/Baritone Scholarship'. This scholarship will go to a college student, pursuing music. Hank, along with a committee, will determine the parameters of the scholarship this coming Fall, with the first award being given for the 2008-2009 school year. We hope this scholarship will be sustained for years to come, in recognition of Hank for all of the joy, singing, and love that he has given to our program.
(Donations for the Hank Bischoff Bass/Baritone Scholarship are being welcomed at the following address: St. James the Less, Attn: Scholarship, 550 Sunset Ridge Rd., Northfield, IL 60093).
If you enjoy choral music, listen for "With Heart and Voice" from 6:00 to 7:00 a.m. on Sunday mornings over WFMT, 98.7 FM. What about pipe organ music? Check out "Pipe Dreams" on WFMT from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday evenings. You might also be interested in the concert series at St. James Cathedral in downtown Chicago.
