Music is an important part of our worship at St. James the Less. The Adult Choir, Treble Choir, Quartet the Less, and guest musicians enrich the worship. Under the creative leadership of the music director, the congregation is exposed to church music that includes standard Anglican repertoire, gospel music, world music, Renaissance music and contemporary music. The choir plays a lead role in a variety of special services offered throughout the year including a Celtic service for Advent, Taize on Good Friday, Lessons and Carols and A Rose Sunday presentation of the Voices of Mary. Adult choir rehersals are every Thursday night at 7:30 pm. from September through early June.
Foundations in Music is our music education program for our younger singers. Treble Choir meets for this class that combines weekly rehearsals with lesson in the basics of music theory, vocal production and sacred music literature.
Our traditional music uses the church’s Moeller two-manual, 16-rank pipe organ with trumpet en chamde and zimbelstern. Other instruments include handbells, handchimes, pianos and an electric keyboard. We have recently improved our sound system to provide for better acoustics for all members of the parish. Our Season of Sound program www.seasonofsound.com is a successful concert series created by the Music Director that offers programs free of charge to the broader community.
