Happy New Year Families of SJTL! What a treat to turn the page on 2020 and look ahead to a year we can hang some hope on! Pictured above is my daughter, Sophia, 13 years old, who unbeknownst to her, captures the essence of some of the habits and feelings we share: 1) The ongoing attire that centers around sweats, pj’s and casual wear since we are home more than ever and no celebratory events to attend to. 2) A sparkly 2021 headband that has a listless “1” at the end; signaling the energy for a New Year yet…trepidation for the New Year! And, 3) The thumbs up sign partnered with a neutral grimace—pointing toward our weary hearts with a glimmer of hope and belief for better days to come. As we reflect on this holiday season, what a gift it was to see so many familiar faces on our Pageant & Christmas Eve videos! We are forever grateful for the wonderful costumes, enthusiasm and time that our families, teens and kids shared to make these videos so spectacular. (And, who knew we had so many talented actors in our parish!) Big shout out to Jimmy Alcorn, who worked endless hours to edit all the submitted videos to form them into a dynamite, finished project. Thank you, all!
In addition to our virtual offerings, our teens spread the holiday joy throughout the community in person, by reaching out to some of our adult parishioners to drop off a small note and gift (socially distanced and masked). The kids really enjoyed this opportunity and our recipients shared how pleasantly surprised they were to receive such thoughtfulness and share conversation with our young adults. In the New Year, we have been dreaming up creative ways for our kids and families to connect to the sacred during this continued pandemic. This Sunday, our teens will be sharing their ideas on Zoom and our Littles will be sharing their jokes and songs at Wiggle Worship beginning later this month. Additionally, we will have new programming to usher in Lent and Easter which are just around the bend…stay tuned for all of the offerings of the season as we foster much needed hope and faith during this unique time.
