Being Uncomfortable

6/11/2020

Resources for Daily Living has been offered for these many weeks to assist you in deepening in faith during this pandemic that has created so much extra time. As I said several times in my sermons, we were sin sick before the pandemic and the brutal death of George Floyd surfaces the sin of racisimagain.
It is uncomfortable as the 60’s so many remember in great vivid detail. We don’t want to see violence of any kind between our citizens, we don’t want to hear about poverty and stories of social injustice. We don’t want to reflect on our prisons and consider that indeed we are all part of sin that is corporate and larger than our individual lives can reckon; heck we are still trying to understand the 60’s. Maybe we can relate with the Israelites who wanted Moses to take them back to Egypt where at least they knew what was coming each day.

I am uncomfortable. Every conversation feels sensitive and charged with opinion. How do I preach, pray and pastorally lead people toward the gospel right now when we are so focused on political differences. We are on edge together and with God’s help we are on the journey together.

God sent the Israelites into the confusion and frustrations of the desert in which they were set against each other not to leave them in their discomfort but to free them and save them. Be open and available to God who is guiding us as a church and people through discomfort toward the fullness of salvation.

The resources in this email are meant to support our becoming more and more a in union with the beloved community of love.

God the Father, your will for all people is health and salvation;
We praise you and thank you, O Lord.
God the Son, you came that we might have life, and might have it more abundantly;
We praise you and thank you, O Lord.
God the Holy Spirit, you make our bodies the temple of your presence;
We praise you and thank you, O Lord.
Holy Trinity, one God, in you we live and move and have our being;
We praise you and thank you, O Lord.

With you on the journey
